It would be great if I could create a password protected game so I can have my friends to join, and then remove the password so the game can be filled with other human players.

A simple 'Remove password' button will do the job.

Oh, and thanks for such a great game

wouldn't it be easier to allow creation of reserved slots like in many other online games? you could set a password and with one extra option field you could set how many slots are pw protected and how many are free for all
