a bunch of things... 1 Year, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello again,

here's what I came across the other day. Did I already mention that I like PokerTH? No? Well, me likes it.

1. Optional: Show player's avatar (or not)
2. Logfile: Display card's "color" using a small image (examples needed?)
2a. 4-coloured cards...
3. Logfile: other formats possible? Are there any standard formats already available e.g. for 'replay'?
4. log panel (bottom right): select all/copy/paste/clear. optional: clear after each hand/game
5. for beginners: Offer a help functionality for pre-flop, flop, turn, river...
6. Why is the avatar and the dealer button position etc. for the human player swapped? On purpose?
7. Small blind and big blind should be visible somehow (like in v.0.3)...
8. statistsics: The money distribution (small stack etc.) should always be visible: What about on the right hand side of each player's panel (vertical, %); to be updated after each hand...
9. How about some more statistics? Could be also good for testing purposes...
10. Why is the currency in "$"? Not that it would bother me. I'm just curious. If that'd be optional, it could be interesting later on in network games.
11. I'm always preferring a binary over an installer. Will you always provide one?
12. missing Version number: filename, About box, Caption bar, Logfile
13. Any raising of the blinds should be displayed one way or another. Preferrably in the GUI as well as in the logfiles. Audio-viually, if possible...
14. Idea: In case a human player wants to fold and nobody raised before (i.e. it wouldn't cost him anything to check), what about a warning/message?
15. Selecting avatars: One has to start from the home directory for each player all over again...

Last, but not least: I really like the design of the PokerTH chips. Have you ever thought of selling mousepads, mugs etc.?

Regards, Ralf.

That is an interesting list of things. Sorry can't answer on any of your questions, but you pointed to something I have overlooked as a gfx artist.

But thanks for the comment on the chip.

I also want some sound effects but we need them to be really lose on the license.

Hi PassingStranger

I see you are really concerned with pokerth
I will try to comment a few points:

2a. We talked about 4-colored cards and agree that we don't want 4-colored cards in pokerth.

3. If there is a standard-format for poker-logs i would use it. but i have no information about that.

5. What did you mean with help functionality?

6. Yes, on purpose. We want to position the field where sets where shown next to the center-widget. i know the player 1 and 6 break this order but it was the compromise.

7. Will be optional in next version.

9. Which statistics are you most interested in?

10. We thought about using € instead of $ but we decide the classical variant with $.

11. There is already a static linux-bin and a static windows-exe hidden in the zip-files

12. Good point. We will do that in next version.

13./14. We will think about.

15. What did you mean? That you have to start browsing from home-directory to select an avatar?

Last but not least: We will start producing mergendising articles after first advertising contract with "pokerstars"

Hm, I was still working on this post, and now doitux has replied already.
Anyway, here are my 2 cents:

1. I don't see why it should be possible to remove the 50x50 square altogether (it fills the space nicely, and it makes it more immediately obvious whether a player is just folded or completely gone from the table). On the network, I imagine an option "I don't want to see other people's naughty avatar images" would make sense. That is, if the avatars are also sent over the network.

2. Would be cool to have, but checking the log files should be an exception anyway.

3. Sorry, don't get it. Replay?

4. For copying/pasting, there's always the log file, isn't there? And clearing the panel after each hand would make the panel pretty much useless (it's only really interesting after the hand has finished, to find out what the other guy's hand was). Clearing the panel after a new game has been started is fine, I guess, but last game's info is gone soon enough anyway.

5. Help functions are tricky to get right without making them too intrusive. The furthest I would go is highlighting the hand the player has in the left toolbox (speaking of the left toolbox, I'd prefer a column approach to the current 1 - 2 nextline 3 - 4 approach).

6. To keep the name next to the avatar, and keep the amount of money set near the middle of the table, I think.

7. I didn't really miss this, but sure.

8. Adding percentages may clutter the interface, and I like the "hard numbers only" approach.

9. Statistics like "number of hands played/won by player"? I'd find that distracting.

10. I wouldn't miss the $ if it went altogether. I wouldn't mind if it stayed.

11. I prefer the binaries as well.

12. Sure, but is it really needed in all those places?

13. I would prefer no audio. I like having some music on while playing, don't like it interrupted by pokerth going "ka-ching" or whatever.

14. The devs like it with the three buttons. But maybe the fold button could change to Fold? and then you'd have to click it again if you could just as easily check. But I kind of like the "you click it, you do it".

15. Sure, but I think the selection thing is more a qt thing than a pokerth thing.

I'm not pro any sound that is loud or sounds like techno. Just a simple "chip on cloth" for bet/rais a "soft knock" for call and maybe a "card shuffle" sound for new deal.

It will in my opinion improve the usabillity of pokerTH.
