I really don't think distributed computing will ever be needed for a poker program, because the number of calculations required is quite small compared to what a single computer can do nowadays.
We are not talking about chess or something, where a lot of possibilities need to be considered.
Collecting statistics might be an idea, but it sounds more like "big brother is watching your playing style"... It would seem that most players would not like this.
Anyway, the engine already adapts to player behaviour (floty can tell you more about this
