Together with the season reset on February 1st we will introduce a new ranking.
The formula we will be using is score=25*(total points)/games*(1-10/(10+games)) or shorter 25*(total points)/(10+games).
We came up with this formula after a lot of discussions. There are 40 points available at a table. This makes the average 4 per player on a table. Usually an average player reaches place 4 and the aim was to give the 4th place the average points of 4. We then give points like this
1st 15
2nd 9
3rd 6
4th 4
5th 3
6th 2
7th 1
8th - 10th 0
To calculate the score we first get the average by dividing the total points by the amount of games. Since this score could differ quite a lot if you just play a few "lucky" games compared to the score you would reach after playing more games, we multiply this score by 1-10/(10+games). This factor is 0.5 after 10 games, 0.75 after 30 games, 0.9 after 90 games and so on and diverges slowly towards 1. So the more you play the closer the score goes towards your average points. There will be no additional malus or bonus any more, since the factor takes care of that.
At the end we multiply everything by 25, so that "the average player" ends up with a score of 100 in the long run instead of 4.
We think this formula is much easier to understand and doesn't penalise players anymore who can't play at the end of a season. It also makes sure that you need a certain amount of games to reach a good ranking position. All games of the season will count, not only the last 100. And finally it encourages you to play more games without giving too much advantage to players who play a lot of games.
The next season will be a beta season, and only two months long. After that we do season resets every three months.
See you at the tables
