ptmuldoon created the topic: Pokerth-Server and Reverse Proxy
Hi, First post here so hoping for maybe some friendly help.

I run a little home lab setup with ProxMox. And I just setup a Ubuntu Container and installed Pokerth-server on it. And then connected a Pokerth client from a windows laptop to it without issue.

So, I connected to the server on my local Lan just fine. But now I'm trying to share this with others (friends) outside my home but without opening up any ports, thus need to figure out how to setup reverse proxy for it.

I installed nginx on the ubuntu server, and I do have dyndns web address that points to my home IP. Just struggling with how to set up the reverse proxy

And want to hopefully ensure the reverse proxy does not stop the inside the home lan connections.

Can anyone help out a newbie?

Thanks

Hi ptmuldoon,

what exactly do you have in mind with a reverse proxy without web/web-socket requests?

It would be way easier to setup an openvpn server and let people login to the vpn with generated keys, which would result in a LAN situation. Even internet games would work with that - if you announce vpn server ip.

Hey Spock,

I really just want to try and keep my network as secure as I can. I run a few other VM's and containers in the house for UnRaid, Plex, and few others.

I could pass out VPN keys to friends, but that would then give them full access to my network and he/she could potentially start poking around in the wrong places.

I did set up port forwarding to the PokerTH VM server, and that works.

Just trying to work to avoid opening ports to the outside world if possible.

That is purpose of vpn. One device acts as a server - and you can 100% protect it - just opening ports for pokerth, maybe spec tool too.

Why do you have concerns?
